Whooo Loves the Baby Reversible Photo Quilt with Family Tree

Standard

I want to start sharing some of my finished quilts with you, and this one is obviously one of my all time favs!

photo quilt

This is the quilt I made for baby boy when he was born. It has pictures of his immediate family on the front (parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and grandparents). We don’t live close to any of our family, so using this as his tummy time mat lets him get familiar with seeing their faces.

I used this The Hoots Quilt Pattern by Amy Bradley Designs to make the front. She includes a bonus pattern to make a wall quilt that says “Whooo loves the baby?” up the side. Instead of “the baby,” I put baby boys name in the corner. I printed all the pictures on Printed Treasures printable fabric sheets. I appliqued all of the owls and pictures using invisible thread.

The back of the quilt is made from a fabric panel I found at my quilt shop. I cut the leaves from coordinating green fabric using a leaves galore ruler. The rest of our family and close friends signed the leaves for his “family tree.” I appliqued them to the tree before quilting.

I used some border fabric to make the panel the same width as the front. My mom did the quilting for me (didn’t she do great?!?) I LOVE the bark on the tree and the swirls in the animals. She quilted each side of the quilt separately with just batting (no backing). We did this so that the detailed quilting (the bark and the swirls) wouldn’t show through on the other side. Then we quilted them together using the swirls in the borders and a few well placed lines and swirls in the middle. I squared it up and added binding as usual.

I LOVE THIS! So does baby boy 🙂 and we hope you do too!
